What We Believe

We believe that there is good news for this world. It’s a long story, but in short, that news can be summed up in this ancient statement of faith; JESUS IS LORD.

The longer story is, of course, found in the Bible, which is a living word, from God to us.

It tells us about Jesus, the Son of God, who came to be our Saviour.

He lived the perfect human life, fulfilling God’s law on our behalf.

He died a sinner’s death, taking our sin upon himself and paying for it in his own flesh.

He rose again, defeating death and evil for us.

He ascended to heaven, to be our advocate and representative before God the Father.

We believe that by faith in Jesus we can know the forgiveness of sin, welcome into God’s family, and the hope of eternal life in the new creation.

We believe that Jesus has promised to return and renew the whole creation, destroying sin, death and evil forever.

We believe that we are called to share this good news about Jesus with those around us, living lives of faith, hope and love.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17)

“When I say God, I mean Father, Son and Holy Spirit.” (Gregory of Nazianzen, Oration 38, Fourth century CE)

Apostle’s Creed

We believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come again to judge the living and the dead.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

AMEN.
